HAYA

HAYA is a team project in collaboration with Homecenter to design a kitchenware range for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) market. Tradition and culture are deeply rooted in their lifestyle and thus we decided to highlight them. The initial research indicated that the UAE population comprises of Emiratis, Arab Expats, Saudis, Westerners, and Asians. Delving into the users lifestyle and how the dining area functions gave us insights into the challenges faced. Combining simple yet efficient ideas with aesthetics that reflect the UAE culture we designed a tableware set which consists of a Kettle Set, Lamp, Snack Plate, Bottle, Center Plate, and Eating Plate.

INSIGHTS:

In the UAE culture, guests are always welcomed with open arms and are offered beverages. The meals take place in the dining areas which consists of multiple food items. Transferring the food from the kitchen to the dining area has the risk of spillage. Everyone sits together for meals. Serving each other and sharing food is very common but it becomes difficult to reach for the food because of the clustered layout. It is challenging to maintain the food temperature as everything is brought to the dining area at the same time. The design of the plates is not suitable for accommodating more than two food items at once. Lastly, cleaning and disposal can become cumbersome and time consuming.
